Teaching Essential Life Skills to Adolescents and Teenagers with Autism
Three skill areas drawn from NLG’s life skills assessment are highlighted: Independent use of Public Restrooms, Time Telling, and Restaurant skills (as a customer). For each of these areas, an NLG Clinical Director describes the specific sub skills to teach, ABA teaching procedures, including innovative prompts, and data (complete with IOA) on skill acquisition for specific students. For each area, the importance of the skill to independence and access to the community is described along with variations to teaching procedures based on student learning.
