Streamlined Functional Analysis Workshop by Dr. Jessica Slaton

Jan 29, 2019

CEU Event for BCBA’s

On March 14th from 6-8 pm at 10 Oak Park Drive in Bedford, NLG is offering a workshop that will enable BCBA’s to design and implement a streamlined Functional Analysis to allow the development of effective treatment for problem behavior.  The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Jessica Slaton.  Participants will receive 2 CEU credits.  There is a $50 registration fee.  Spaces are limited so register as soon as possible. Workshop Description:

Conducting a functional analysis (FA) is a critical component of designing effective treatment for problem behavior. However, practitioners have reported that they do not often conduct FAs because of the time and resources necessary to do. The interview-informed synthesized contingency analysis (IISCA) is an FA format that is efficient, practical, and has been conducted a variety of settings including homes, schools, clinics, residential placements, and adult day placements. The IISCA can be conducted in 25 minutes or less and relies on capturing common scenarios that the individual typically experiences in their daily life, making it easier to conduct in natural settings without access to specialized equipment or session rooms. This 2-hour workshop will teach participants how to design and conduct IISCAs, including conducting a thorough clinical interview, designing the test and control conditions, assessing the outcome of the IISCA, and understanding the current IISCA research.

Learning objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the fundamental components of the IISCA
  • Design an IISCA, including selecting which topographies and contexts to include
  • Assess the outcome of an IISCA and determine next steps to take, including explaining the importance of analyzing within-session patterns
  • Describe possible problem-solving strategies when faced with an undifferentiated IISCA
